This school was named after a great lady. She started in Beecher at George St 4 room building. She enjoyed her time there and made life long friends. She was so well thought of by Supt Buehl and board that she became principal of the Messer School, later to be remaned the Marion Harrow School. She was principal during the transition when it went from an all white school to a half black and white school.
She was thrilled as she wanted to be a missionary to Africa, but the depression and lack of finances prohibited it. So she often said, she didn't go to black Africa, they came to her. She relished the friendships she made with all. This was proven by the program in her honor called "This is your life"
put on by her PTA made up of mostly black friends. She had an unusual gift of bringing harmony within the black and white community. She loved people and reflected the Love that God gave her through His Son. God gifted her with 101 years on this earth to bless others. Even in the hospital her last days waiting for surgery or not, she had great enjoyment telling her story to people caring for her. She couldn't believe doctors and nurses from other floors where hearing about remarkable story, wanted to meet her. She decided she wanted surgery knowing she only had a 50% chance of success. She declared that she would rather be with Jesus than be bed ridden the rest of her life. After surgery her heart failed and she went to be with Jesus as she desired. Our loss was Heaven's gain.
